They suddenly appear, conquer, and depart.
Not true!
The totalitarians are with us always.
They come in various guises, their power differs from incident to incident, but power and control are their identifiers.
They seek one thing.
Absolute power. Complete control. They brook no opposition. They are ruthless when it is advantageous, friendly and accomodating when it serves their needs. And always dedicated to and centered on one thing, their own ascendency.
We know them mainly from those who have attained world or national domination. The Genghis Khan's, the Attilas, the Hitlers, the Stalins, the Mao TseTungs, the Ho Chi Minhs of the world. And these serve well to illustrate the manner of men with who we deal..
But they are but a subset of the whole.
For in every field, in every organization, lurks a would-be totalitarian. Given the opportunity, within their boundaries, these would be just as domineering, just as controlling, as any of the historical figures.
In this text we examine some of the more famous (or notorious) of the world's totalitarians. We look for clues as to why.
Why they became the creatures we read about in our histories. What were they like as children? What psychological peculiarites shaped their destinies? Were they, in fact, merely creatures of coincidence, players on the stage at the right time?
And we look closely at the pattern which indicates the creeping of our nation toward a totalitarian future. Little, incremental, steps leading us from freedom to enslavement.
These steps are there.
The gradual but on-going re-interpretation of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The willingness, even eagerness, of government to trigger inidents like Ruby Ridge and Waco. The influx of foreign weapons and troops into the United States.
Perhaps most important of all, the text addresses what you can and must do.
Totalitarianism is the enemy. A strong and dangerous enemy.
And you are the defense!
