Patillac
Patillac A "Pimp Purple" 1965 Cadillac Sedan De Ville With Hydraulics is
the Center Piece project from the California Street Dreams' garage. During
the summer of 1993, while working as a packer for a moving company, Pat
spotted a yuckky green Cadillac for sale on a farm in northern California.
A deal was made with the owner and after scrounging up the cash he returned
on his next trip through that area and drove the beast home.
Very quickly the torches and saws were out and the old caddie had been
slammed and hydroed. The trunk was cleared and four large batteries, two
hydraulic pumps, four solenoids and yards of wire were installed to control
a complete dance set of hydraulics.
Then the long part, carefully removing all of the chrome and other
decorative parts so the body work could begin. correction of various dings
and wobbles in the body took over a year of spare time.
The paint nightmare went on for months as one painter after another
was arrested, moved away or lost interest.
Anybody can squirt paint, but it takes an artist to do a paint job
like Robert. But just as Robert was ready to start he was evicted. (remember,
great artists usually starve) The caddie had been disassembled to the dash
board and couldn't be moved so it sat there in the desert for a few months
until a new place could be found to work.
Finally, a new location was found where the painting could be done
and in a matter of weeks the caddie was fit to push out into the sunlight
where it could get reassembled to the point of derivability.
It was then secreted into the body shop where new white vinyl and gray
tweed seats were constructed and a new set of interior panels installed.
The original green painted interior parts were re painted in a more presentable
white and it was ready to drive back to palmdale for another couple of
months of buffing and cleaning. The Patillac could usually be seen outside
the California Street Dreams shop in Lancaster, Ca. It has been sold,
but still appears around town in Palmdale
