Others, Odds and Ends

Basically, things I like but that don't really fit on the other pages.

Dear Madam, a poem from the Civil War era. I first heard it on the Ken Burns documentary The Civil War and looked for it for quite a while. Finally found it on another Web page (the only one in the search engine!), so I'm putting it up here so that there will be at least two places to find it.

There is an alternate version, Dear Madam, longer and with a slightly different scan to the lines. This was provided to me by Mildred Scheel, through her sister Lane Adams, on the occaision of the death of their father. Ladies, thank you so much for allowing me to share this moving poem with the world.

Amazing Grace, there are TONS of verses for this, and as I find them I'll add them in.

Swingin on a Star, a song made famous by Bing Crosby and one that more people ought to take more seriously :)

Engineers Hymn, a song I first heard sung in the film ZULU (one of Michael Caine's first movies), which commemorates the defense of Roarke's Drift in South Africa by the Welsh Border Guards. This page was lifted from the US Army Corps of Engineers .

Stars and Stripes, The words to the familiar tune, also known as The Stars and Stripes Forever. I've heard parody versions, but this seems to be the real thing.
