Format:

The morning portion of the class will be a lecture with student participation.

Each Saturday morning at 9:00 AM Sharp! A short Quiz covering the material from the prior class will be given. This Quiz accounts for 10% of your final grade! Students will grade the Quiz. It will be returned. Save each Quiz and use these to study for the Mid Term and final Examinations. You should turn in 11 Quizzes' in all.

During the Lecture period we will cover the materials listed in the attached schedule. In addition the instructor will add information and show application to circuitry and equipment in use. As each portion is covered the student will develop the trouble shooting skills required to service a variety of equipment.

The afternoon portion of the class will be Lab. Lab assignments will account for 20% of the students' final grade. Students are encouraged to bring in equipment that is in need of repair. It is no problem to collect radios etc that has minor problems. The instructor will guide the student through the repair of equipment. In addition lab assignments will be made to provide the hands on experience for the circuits discussed in the lecture portion of the class. Each repair or lab assignment must have a Lab report in order to get credit for the work. See the lab report template.

You should turn in a minimum of 10 labs.

Research paper:

Each student is required to complete a research paper. The student may select the subject of the research paper. The subject must be related to Radio Communications of some form. The term paper will account for 20% of your final grade. The paper must be turned in by 5/4/2001 for full credit! 5/11 5% will be deducted for a late paper 5/18 10% will be deducted for a late paper. The research paper should contain interesting information that you have discovered about your subject. It must be written by you describing some aspect of radio communications. I prefer some subject we have not covered in class. It is best to write about something that you have a strong interest in. You will be graded by neatness and overall all appearance as well as content and presentation of the material.

Mid Term:

The mid term examination will cover all information from the start of the class. It will include but not be limited to all information that was covered on the morning Quiz. The midterm will be Closed Notes and closed Book. You may use one 3"X5" index card with formula information. The Mid term will account for 20% of your grade.

Final Examination:

The final examination will cover all material from the start of the class. We will review all the information before the final. You will be allowed to use one 3"x5" formula card. Closed book closed notes!! The final examination will account for 20% of your final grade.

Homework:

Homework assignments will be made during the lab portion of the Class. All students are expected to read the sections indicated in the schedule before coming to class. Questions at the end of each section will be assigned in order to improve knowledge of some subjects.

Homework will account for 10% of your final grade.
